The Undeclared major of the Master of Engineering Science and the Master of Engineering Science (Management) suites and provides graduates with advanced skills in engineering analysis and problem solving.

This specialisation is suitable for those interested in solving advanced technical challenges, managing projects and overseeing teams. Students of this plan develop greater understanding of complex engineering challenges and gain practical experience and knowledge of advanced engineering tools and processes by working through case studies and on individual projects relevant to their field.

Students will acquire mathematical and experimental skills and advanced materials knowledge to address and solve complex engineering problems. This specialisation builds on knowledge taught in undergraduate engineering programs and has been designed to produce engineers that will lead their companies and industries into the future.

Courses

Details of the available courses in the Undeclared plans can be viewed at the UQ Programs and Courses website (click on Course List).

Projects

As part of your Engineering Science (Undeclared) studies you will have the opportunity to undertake a research project in one of the below fields:

  • Chemical Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Materials Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Mechatronic Engineering

Before you can enrol in a project course you will need to find a project and a supervisor. You can find a list of available projects here. This is a list of thesis projects for undergraduate students in their graduating year, but most of them could be upgraded to a MEngSc project. You need to apply to the supervisor listed against the project on the website.

  • Mechanical, Materials and Mechatronic Engineering students can also review the list of academic staff on the website of the School of Mechanical and Mining Engineering. There is a link to UQ reSEARCHers for each staff member, where more detail is available about their research interests.
  • Chemical Engineering students can also visit the School of Chemical Engineering’s website. It lists the School's research areas and contacts which may assist you with finding a suitable project and supervisor.
  • Civil Engineering students can also visit the School of Civil Engineering's website. It lists the School's research areas and contact which may assist you in finding a suitable project and supervisor.

When you have confirmed your project topic and supervisor, complete a Permission Form and submit this to the School of Mechanical and Mining Engineering.
