1. Overview

This document outlines the procedures for BE students submitting their final year thesis in the following disciplines: Chemical, Chemical & Biological, Chemical & Materials, Civil, Environmental, Materials, Mechanical, Mechanical & (Aero)space, and Mining Engineering.

2. Guideline

Formatting:

Unless advised otherwise by your Supervisor or Thesis Co-ordinator, your thesis must be typed in one and a half or double line spacing on A4 paper on one side only, using a font size of 12 points for the main text.   Margins are to be: top 20mm, bottom 20mm, left hand side 30mm, and right hand side 20mm (headers and footers are to be within these margins).

Your printed thesis needs to include:
  • Front Page/Title Page - Students should complete the details required (title, author etc) on the Title Page before printing it.
  • A Submission Letter which needs to be completed and signed.
  • Or, if you are submitting an Industry thesis that needs to be kept confidential, please complete the Confidentiality Submission Letter instead.
  • Please provide, or ask your employer to provide, a copy of the confidentiality agreement (including number of years for which the thesis is not to be made available for distribution) which you have signed.

Students are required to submit:

  • Two (2) hard copies of the thesis; plus
  • One (1) electronic version on a CD in PDF format.
  • One (1) barcoded coversheet printed from appropriate course profile (not to be included in the binding) for hand scanning NO LATER THAN 4pm ON THE DUE DATE.

Assignments are to be submitted to:

  • Students for Chemical Engineering plans (Chemical, Chemical and Biological, Chemical and Materials, Chemical and Metallurgical) submit to: School of Chemical Engineering, Level 3, Bldg74
  • Students for Civil/Environmental plans submit to: School of Civil Engineering, Level 3, Bldg 50
  • Students for Mechanical/Mining plans (Mechanical, Mechanical and Space, Mechanical and Aerospace, Materials Mechanical and Materials, Mining) submit to: :  Faculty of Engineering, Architecture & Information Technology's Assignment Chute, Level 2, Bldg 50 (Room C212).

Hard copies of the thesis are to be thermal bound with a clear front cover so that the Title Page can be easily viewed. The thermal binding facility is available at POD (Print on Demand) St Lucia Campus, or KwikCopy at Toowong.

Please remember not to bind the bar coded coversheet!
