UQ’s Bachelor of Engineering program is the leading engineering program in Queensland, and will provide you with a strong foundation for your future career in engineering. And once you have settled in at UQ, we encourage you to consider ways to enrich your education through international exchange, internships or summer research.

Getting Started

1. Have you read and completed all mySI-net tasks?

Log in with your username s42xxxxx. Make sure you fill in your address, mobile number or second email address (so we can contact you when you lose something), expected graduation term, HECS-Help form, etc.

2. Work through the Bachelor of Engineering First Year Program Guide

Peruse the courses on offer. Choose a project for 1st Semester. Mark up your calendar with events and activities (don't miss Project Day in O-Week). Enrol in the courses you prefer. Sign-on to classes from 9th February.

3. Complete the Get Set Quiz

Grab a pen and paper. Do your best. Be honest: if you can't remember, chose that option. There are two key reasons for this quiz: 1. You can use the resources at the end of the quiz to get set for first year studies; 2. The overall cohort knowledge is fed back to the lecturers so they can tailor lectures to your needs.

First Year Engineering Learning Centre

Please download this guide and start making notes.

Orientation Week

ENGG1100 Projects

ENGG1100 Engineering Design is a foundation course for all engineering students and introduces you to the way professional engineers think and work.  It is compulsory for all engineering students and is run in Semester 1 only.  Please visit the ENGG1100 project page for further information.

Mentoring Program

The UQ Engineering Mentor program connects you with a 2nd year engineering student who can pass on their knowledge and help you adjust to university life. Each mentor is available for an hour a week for any 1st year student to ask for their advice. This gives you the opportunity to both learn the ropes, and to connect with other 1st year students. Mentors can help with everything from finding the cheapest textbooks and giving you tips and tricks for lectures, to easing your way into the social side of uni life.

During weeks 1 & 2 of Semester 1, the Mentors will be availble in the seminar room at the back of the FYELC. You may be in a group of 10-12 students with one mentor. From there it is up to you and your mentor to organise a time and a place to meet. The program runs throughout Semester 1.

If you would like to be part of this program email Yr1Eng@uq.edu.au with the Subject ‘Mentor Program’ and include your name and UQ student number in the body of the email.
