The University of Queensland is one of Australia’s premier engineering research institutions bringing together some of the world’s leading engineering researchers.

The highest priority is placed on strengthening our research expertise, performance and reputation by attracting and developing quality research staff and students. Research students have access to first-class facilities, strong support from supervisors and opportunities to gain international experience during their program.

Its strong reputation for research has enabled us to achieve major grant success and one of the best records for industry collaboration in the country. This success has paved the way for more opportunities for research students to become involved in the exciting research being conducted here.

Our diverse research areas and strong industry links provide many opportunities for postgraduates. The aim of research higher degrees are to provide research training that encourages the development of independent research skills. You undertake an original research project and supervised research training that will culminate in a thesis after 1-2 years for a MPhil and 3-4 years for a PhD of full time study. Upon completion of your research you should be able to formulate a significant problem, to master appropriate conceptual and methodological frameworks, and attain a capacity for articulate and critical analysis.

More information for prospective research students can be found on the UQ Graduate School website. The UQ Graduate School provides comprehensive information on all matters relating to research higher degree programs.
