FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ) FOR SUBMITTING ASSIGNMENTS THROUGH THE UQ ENGINEERING ASSIGNMENT SHUTE.

Where should I submit my assignment?

Please check your Course Profile. Most assignments should be submitted through the assignment chute at the UQ Engineering Office. However, some assignments should be handed in at specified compulsory lectures or tutorials.

What if my assignment doesn't scan?

Your assignment should activate a beep as it passes down the UQ Engineering submission chute. Your details should appear a few seconds later on a monitor located above the chute. If this does not happen, please inform staff so that they can rescan it for you. If this occurs outside of Help Desk Office opening hours (8.30am – 5pm Mon-Fri), please send an email to enquiries@eng.uq.edu.au ASAP with your course code and student details. We will endeavour to have the assignment scanned for you according to the date you emailed us, if possible.

How should I label or identify my assignment?

Ensure your name and full 8 digit student ID are on the coversheet AND each page of your assignment.

What if the course profile doesn't have a coversheet for my assignment?

If you go to the course profile page and cannot find the link to create a coversheet (it should say [create] in blue) – don’t worry! It may not have been set up on this course profile. In this case, just put your own coversheet on the front of your assignment making sure it clearly includes your full name, student number, course code and name of assignment, due date (and all other students’ details if it is a group assignment) and submit as usual.

NOTE: Remember that as this made-up coversheet will not scan and register on our system, it is advised that you try to submit it during our office hours so we can make sure it is manually date-stamped according to the day it was received.

Have I checked the details of my coversheet and attached the right one to the right assignment?

Ensure the correct coversheet is attached to the correct assignment for correct course. As we often receives hundreds of assignments per day, it becomes difficult to search for individual assignments to check that the correct coversheet is attached.

Where can I print cover sheets successfully?

All engineering computer labs are on the same server to facilitate successful access to websites, including links to assignment coversheets.  You may have difficulty using external computers, particularly if software programs are different or incompatible (e.g. Mozilla Firefox).  Our general Engineering undergraduate labs are Building 50, room N301 and Building 78, room 336.  Please contact the Help Desk Office staff for advice on after-hours access or eligibility to access other undergraduate computing labs.

Why doesn't my cover sheet look right?

  • If possible, access your Course Profiles through Internet Explorer, NOT Mozilla Firefox as this software tends to spread the Cover Sheet over multiple pages.
  • Print from a laser jet printer as the assignment chute scanner device is sensitive and doesn’t always recognise barcodes printed by inkjet or bubble jets. All engineering computer lab printers are laser jet.

What is Print Credit; where can I obtain it and use it?

Rather than paying a cash amount for each page you would like to print, you can obtain Print Credit for use in all the Engineering labs.

To obtain Print Credit, collect a yellow Print Credit Form from the Help Desk Office (50-C212).   At the UQ Student Centre (JD Storey Building), pay for the amount of Print Credit you choose. (Estimate 11c per page).   Please take the receipt to the Faculty EAIT Office (50-S204) where staff will add your printer credit.

NOTE:  Please plan ahead to ensure you have sufficient print credit to cover all your urgent print needs.

Further queries: Please contact the Help Desk Office staff in 50-C212.
